Dr. Kirk Walters was called into full-time ministry in 1996 and has served at Metro Church since 2013. He has an undergraduate degree in Business and Marketing, a Master’s degree in Theology and a Ph.D. in Administration. His prior ministry experience includes serving as youth pastor, missions pastor, executive pastor and senior pastor. He has also had the privilege of preaching in 15 countries on 5 continents.
He comes from a four-generation legacy of ministers and grew up believing he would be going down a different path in the business world. But God called him to full-time ministry after serving in corporate America for six years.
His heart is to see the church become all God created it to be and truly make a difference in the lives of people in the Birmingham community and around the world. He is married to his beautiful wife, Laura, and they have two wonderful children, Bradley and Lauren.
Michael & Tena Welborn have been married for 31 years. They have served the Church of God in local, state and International ministries in various roles for over 30 years in Virginia, South Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama. Most recently, they resided in Cleveland, TN, where Michael served as the Director of Enrollment Services for the Division of Adult Learning at Lee University and is currently an adjunct professor for Lee Online. Tena served as an Administrative Assistant in the office of the General Overseer for the Church of God.
They have been blessed with two children: their daughter, Amber, is 30 years old and a Nurse Practitioner, is married to Joshua Foster (Homeland Security). They live in Atlanta. They have two children, John Rhett (5) and Reese Madison (3). Their son, Derek, is 27 and is the student pastor at Crosspointe Church in Dalton, GA. He is married to Jill Singerman who works at Lee University.
Michael graduated from Patten University in May 2009 where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Church Leadership with a concentration in music and worship. He received his Master of Arts in Worship Studies from Hope International in 2011 and is currently pursuing a doctorate of Worship Studies. Tena is pursuing a degree in Ministry Leadership with a concentration in Counseling from Lee Online at Lee University.
Kellie Morrison was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. She graduated from the University of South Alabama in 2005 with a degree in Elementary Education and began teaching that fall. In 2009, she became Nationally Board Certified in Early Childhood Education. Her heart is to see children form a lasting and strong relationship with God and train them to use their talents to minister to those around them.
Joe and Erika Bain have served in youth ministry for over 10 years now. Joe grew up in Gadsden Alabama where He served 2 years in Master’s Commission, in an intense discipleship program designed to stretch and mold the leaders of tomorrow. Upon completing his training Joe took the position of Student Pastor at Cathedral of Praise in Gadsden Alabama, which he proudly served for over 7 years. Joe and Erika have been in Huntsville, AL the last 4 years at Life Church Huntsville as the Student Pastor. Joe currently is on the State Softball and Golf Committee, which raises money for scholarships for students pursuing college to Lee University. Joe is currently an Ordained Minister in the Church of God. Joe and Erika bring an attitude of excitement and creativity to fully maximize the potential we have for Fuel Student Ministry. They come to Metro Church of God with their three sons, Malachi, Josiah, and Judah.
